Adam Spickler, who serves as the first openly transgender man elected to public office in all of California, was elected as a Cabrillo College Trustee in 2018, re-elected by a wide margin in 2022, and re-elected by running unopposed for a 3rd term in 2026. Adam is the 2026 Vice Chair of the college's governing board, Chair of the board’s Public Relations subcommittee, and is a member of the board’s Legislative Advocacy and Native & Indigenous Student Education subcommittees, as well as a founding member of the Cabrillo Rainbow Council.

Separate from their role at Cabrillo, Adam is an elected member of Santa Cruz County’s Democratic Party, Vice Chair of the board of directors for Housing Santa Cruz County, and was appointed in 2026 to the California Luitenent Governor's statewide Transgender Advocacy Committee.

Professionally, Adam is the Senior Analyst to the Administration of the County of Santa Cruz Human Services Department, serving as the agency’s Public Information Officer and Government Affairs Liaison. Prior to their 13 years working for the County’s Human Services Department, Adam spent 7 years as senior district staff for 2 state lawmakers. Adam and their husband Scotty live near the harbor in the Live Oak area of Santa Cruz, with their shelter rescue dog Juno.
